The game shows potential, but too many dubious design choices dampen my mood:
- Just like this game page doesn't contain a description of the game, nothing in the game is properly explained. The fact that store-bought weapons contain skills (which aren't visible in the shop screen) is probably the greatest surprise; since all party members start without skills, I was very hesitant to buy anything. Also, a description of the classes at the beginning would be great, though I assume the greatest difference lies in which party members can equip which equipment pieces (i.e. learn which skills).
- The main reason why I will most likely abandon my playthrough is that enemies don't respawn, which makes deliberate grinding impossible. I hate limited resources - virtually limited anything - in games. Grinding low-level enemies on the first floor to prepare for the lower floors (EXP/Gold/equipment/skills) would have been a lot of fun, at least from my perspective.
- While I can understand that a "save anywhere" feature isn't available (2 autosaves instead), it's very annoying that manual saves aren't possible at all. I want to be able to save the game, for example, before and after buying equipment (in case something goes wrong).
- For whatever reason, be it a graphical glitch or something else, the mini-map doesn't seem to work.
- Why the hell do my party members walk behind me in a caterpillar system? This is very unusual when it comes to first-person dungeon crawlers, and every time I turned around, I nearly got a heart attack.
- I'm not a fan of the quick time event to maximize damage output - another "feature" I wish I had known about beforehand.
- Very annoying: It seems it's not possible to switch between party members in the equipment shop screens.
To mention one good aspect: Being able to respec the allocated stat points anytime and without penalty is a great design choice.
If enemies respawned and manual saves were allowed at least outside of the dungeon, I would be inclined to continue my playthrough, but as the game is right now, the aforementioned points suck out all the fun for me.
Thank you for taking the time to reply and leave feedback! Sorry for the delayed response. This is a starter project for something bigger I have in mind that I work on in my free time.
I'm still struggling with design choices.
- More descriptions to come, saving is done at the pub so you need to exit after boss floors or by item to save manually.
- Enemy respawns are do-able, but that's a preference for myself since you can move up and down floors - it will be noted.
- Caterpillar is design choice i prefer, I can see about a setting to turn on and off.
- What about the Mini-Map doesn't work?
